1792 Lima IJ ¼ Real

1792 Lima half real obverse 1792 Lima half real reverse

A rarely seen Lima Portrait quarter real.  The 1792 quarter real is the first year milled quarter reales were minted in Peru.  Spanish colonial quarter reales bearing the King’s portrait were minted briefly in Peru, and also at Santiago, Chile, and only during the reign of Charles IV.  The example here is sharp, with a well-centered strike, a choice example of this rare piece.
